THE EDITORIAL ANGLEMindvalley, burnout and the commercial role of community.
Two ideas to take away.
- Treat the founder’s capacity as part of business planning.
- Ask what community contributes beyond reach and acquisition.
Meet Vishen Lakhiani.
Vishen Lakhiani is the founder of Mindvalley, a personal growth education platform, and author of The Code of the Extraordinary Mind and The Buddha and the Badass. In this conversation, he draws on his experience building an education company and his own approach to mental practice.
Mindvalley, burnout and the commercial role of community.
Vishen describes an earlier working environment that prompted him to rethink his relationship with work and health. He talks about meditation, gratitude and forgiveness as practices he returns to, rather than ideas he encountered once. Those experiences lead into the challenges founders face when ambition and recovery compete for attention.
We then discuss community, customer support and evidence. Community is presented as part of the business experience, not simply an audience for marketing. Vishen also argues that the growing number of longevity products makes credible evidence increasingly important to differentiation.
A health brand is judged partly by the coherence between its message and its behaviour. Support, community and transparent communication can influence whether people continue to engage. As markets become noisier, attention alone is an incomplete measure of a company’s strength.
